Frequently Asked Questions

What is UpLift?

v

UpLift is a technology-driven mental healthcare company. We're on a mission to give everyone access to affordable mental health care and to build a future where a primary mental health provider is the new standard. We make the search for licensed mental health care providers as affordable and convenient as possible.

What is depression?

v

Depression can occur at any time and affects 1 in 10 adults every year. While it can come with feelings of sadness, depression isn’t the same as sadness. It affects every part of your life—your thoughts, emotions, and even your body. Depression comes in a spectrum of intensity, with symptoms ranging from mild to severe.

Sometimes, depression happens because of an event or trauma but not always. And for some people, depression can be an episode while for others it is recurrent. With treatment and support—including medication in some cases—many people learn to work through and manage their depression.

When will I see results?

v

Antidepressants aren’t immediate and take time to be effective. You may feel some benefits within a week or two, such as improved sleep, but expect one to two months until your medication reaches full efficacy.

You and your psychiatric provider will discuss a schedule to check in on your experience. You might find that your initial prescription doesn’t work for you, and that’s okay. You may need to work together to switch to a different treatment that works better for you.

How long will I be on antidepressants?

v

People’s experiences with depression vary, and so will the length of the treatment. Some people stay on antidepressants for a year. Some may need to stay on antidepressants as something like a form of maintenance.

You may find that antidepressants aren’t for you or you’ve made the kind of progress where you feel like stopping medication. If you want to stop, please discuss it with your provider as there can be side effects to suddenly stopping medication.

How do I get antidepressants from UpLift?

v

After sharing with us a bit about yourself, you will meet with an UpLift provider. If it seems right, you’ll receive a prescription for depression medication. Your provider will then ask for your preferred pharmacy where you can then pick up your medication.

Is UpLift able and allowed to prescribe me through virtual care?

v

Yes, we hire licensed psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners who are trained to diagnose and prescribe the appropriate medication through virtual care. You would meet with a provider who can legally practice in your state. The provider assesses your symptoms to diagnose whether you have depression and if medication is the right treatment, using the same tools and processes as a provider would in person.

How much does UpLift cost?

v

UpLift isn’t a subscription. You’ll only be charged after each session. Before you meet with your UpLift provider, you will receive an email informing you how much your session costs, based on your insurance. You and your provider can develop a treatment plan that works best for you.

The cost of antidepressants will depend on your insurance plan. We recommend speaking with your insurance carrier to learn more about how much your medication will cost. Some things to ask about include your copay, deductible, and whether they cover your prescribed medication.

Do I need insurance to use UpLift?

v

Though our talk therapy services offer cash pay options, unfortunately, our psychiatric services currently require clients to have insurance. We partner with:

  • CareFirst Blue Cross Blue Shield

  • Optum

  • Cigna
